The Wild Game Dinner of 2020 was one of the best yet. The Club is very appreciative of the volunteers who worked preparing, serving and clearing the dinner, the Chef, Max, and member cooks who created the many very special dishes, the bakers who provided all the desserts, the Shamrock Club for doing the dishes, and all the donors of auction items.   All funds go to supporting the Hunter and Anglers programs like the Ernest Eddy Memorial Children’s Fish Derby, the Awesome Women’s Experience, annual data gathering of the deer harvest, and public education events, and for support of our outdoor sports’ heritage through education and partnerships with local and regional organisations.  We look forward to seeing you at next year’s dinner when we will celebrate the 27th annual Wild Game Dinner.

Sarah Lemieux presenting Managing Winter-use Deer Yards at January 9th General Meeting

For the January 9th, meeting,  our guest speaker will be Sarah Lemieux, a Sault College student, whose study project is Managing Winter-Use Deer Yards.  She will be making a presentation about this project, and she is also hoping the members of the Club can provide helpful input about the current state and locations of deer yards on St. Joseph Island.  Please plan to attend our first meeting of the year on January 9, and help out with this very worthwhile project.

DEER CHECK STATIONS REPORT

Deer Check station results

Terri Winter and the students from Sault College will be presenting the results collected during this deer hunting season from the deer check stations on the mainland and on St. Joseph Island . The presentation will take place at 7:30 on Thursday December 12th at the St. Joseph Island Hunters and Anglers General Meeting. If you would like to know what the impact last winter had on the deer population, and future plans and projections for recovery, then this is the meeting for you to attend. The meeting is open to members and non-members, so please plan to attend and support the worthwhile work the College is doing to study the health of the deer herds in our local area.
