Description:
The Awesome Women’s Experience, AWE, is designed for women to have a fun day of learning about nature, ecology, plants and wildlife in an outdoor environment where they can also learn and practice outdoor skills. Since AWE’s first year in 2011, it has been held at the St. Joseph Island Hunters and Anglers Association Conservation Centre every September. Some of the workshops of past AWE days have included plant identification, cooking outdoors, preparation of wild meat, archery, chainsaw use, meteorology, and survival in the wilderness. Every year offers a distinct menu of workshops. The day begins with a continental breakfast and concludes with a fireside gathering for camaraderie.
AWE is for women who want to spend more time outdoors, who want to learn outdoor skills and who want to be more comfortable in the outdoors. AWE is for like-minded women, both members and non-members of the St. Joseph Island Hunters and Anglers Association. Knowledge and even enjoyment of hunting and angling is not a requirement.
Each AWE experience is a one-day event that includes workshops run by skilled, knowledgeable facilitators. Any required equipment, all meals, and above all, fun and fellowship for women are part of each AWE occasion. Ask any woman who has attended; she returns year after year. As AWE grows in popularity, it will be developed as a weekend event.
AWE is open to women 12 years and older. Any attendees under the age of 16 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. Registration occurs in the summer. Prizes are given for early-birds and all forms are found on the SJIHA website.

The day begins at 8 am. Morning classes 8:30am – noon, Afternoon classes 1-4:30 pm
